45th Annual Bottoms Up Regatta!
June 2-3,2007

The 45nd ANNUAL WKC BOTTOMS-UP REGATTA!!!

Ah, yes….what’s a season of paddling without attending the annual Salmon la Sac race?? Keeping with The Washington Kayak Club (formerly the Washington Foldboat Club) tradition, the event will continue on the first weekend in June: June 2-3, 2007! This is the 45th year in a row – come join us!

In the lovely pine forests near Roslyn, WA, under sunny skies, you will be able to participate in the following events and activities:
• Slalom Race
• Downriver Sprint Race
• Downriver Classic Race
• Kid’s Slalom Race
• Scavenger Hunt
• Clive Lister Memorial Toast and campfire gathering

The downriver and slalom events are part of the 2007 Northwest Whitewater Cup Series so racers will earn coveted cup points.
Racers are also eligible to win one of the following SLS traveling trophys: the infamous Tipover Award, the silver bowl for top woman and top man and trophys for the fastest open canoes.

For the seasoned whitewater paddle, the level on the Cle Elum canyon http://www.americanwhitewater.org/rivers/id/2093/ and Cooper Creek runs http://www.americanwhitewater.org/rivers/id/2100/, will be good. In addition the area offers numerous hiking and mountain biking opportunities, and a nice campground perfect for kids’s to ride bikes around!

• The whitewater slalom course is a moderate class II rapid. There will be a novice course on the top section where it’s pretty flat for those new to the game.
• The downriver race is 4 miles long and class II+ http://www.americanwhitewater.org/rivers/id/2094/

Entry fees are $25.00 per racer with a $10.00 discount to those with ACA membership. Additional race classes are $5.00 each per racer. Separate classes are offered based on age, gender, and type of boat (canoes, kayaks, open boats, race boats, plastic play boats, K-2s, etc)

How to Get There: Navigate I-90 and exit at Roslyn. Drive through town (the whole place is a speed trap and stays a speed trap until you get to the campground: Beware!) to the end of the road, and there you are at both the race site and campground.

Camping: This year no reservations are being taken for any campsites. Currently the road is washed out about one mile (near the Sno-Park?) before the SLS campground. The County has assured us, however, that they will have the road fixed and the campground open by Memorial Day weekend. So we are planning on holding the race as tradition requires!
